Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya is the founder of Banaras Hindu University(BHU), Varanasi. This incident happend when pandit ji was collecting funds for the foundation of BHU. For building the university a large amount of money was needed and Pandit ji did not had much money for the noble cause. For this, he used to visit rich persons, institutions and organisation to explain his idea of formation of multi-facility university and request them to donate for this noble cause. For the same reason he once visited Nawab of Hyderabad but unfortunately he had to return empty hand. He was sad for this while returning back when he noticed a funeral of rich person passing by the road. As per tradition money was thrown on the rich man's dead body in the funeral. Pandit ji too joined the funeral and started collected the money thrown. When some people saw that a well mannered and well cultured person doing this act, they asked about it. Pandit ji explained about his noble mission and how he returned empty hand from Nawab of Hyderabad. Moreover he told that whatever the amount would be collected, he would take it as the help from Hyderabad for the establishment of the university. Knowing about honest intention and inspired by him many of the rich personalities in the funeral donated thousands of rupees as charity.
